About the Community
A community owned by the people who live here.
Candlewood Lake began with a single home in 1973. Today, more than six hundred families call its winding roads home, and three thousand lots spread across the wooded hillsides surrounding a 250-acre stream-fed lake. We are the second largest community in Morrow County, but you would never know it from the quiet on a Tuesday morning.

Owned by the people who live here
A private developer started the community in the early 1970s. When he ran out of money before the work was finished, the people who already lived here did something rare: they bought the land themselves. The Candlewood Lake Association was born from that decision, and the community has been member-owned and member-run ever since.
Candlewood does not feel large. It feels like yours.

What life looks like
Fishing boats on the water before sunup. Kids on bikes between the two pools in July. Pontoons drifting along the six miles of shoreline at sunset. A bonfire at the beach when the season turns. The annual community garage sale spilling onto every lot for two days every spring. Most of the year, it is quiet. When it is not, it is because the whole community showed up.
Forty-five minutes north of Columbus, about an hour and a half south of Cleveland, Candlewood sits close enough to both cities for a weekend escape and far enough to feel like its own world. Some members live here full-time. Others come up Friday nights and leave Sunday afternoons. Both kinds belong.
People who arrived here in their thirties are often still here forty years later.
